Gov. Cooper declares April 'North Carolina Beer Month'
It became official yesterday when Governor Cooper signed it into
effect to celebrate this large industry in the state.
Breweries in our area feel the support is great because
surrounding states don't have anything similar.
Currently, North
Carolina breweries employ over 10,000 people at over
250 different locations.
Some owners believe local breweries in the state are
becoming more of a destination than just another place to grab a drink.
Experts say the craft brewing trend is continuing to expand
and the support of the state only helps.
"Small is where new growth begins and not every
industry pans out,” said Benjamin Self, Brewmaster at Uptown Brewery in Greenville .
“But I think it's clear that craft beer is going to be a
strong player."
"There are more breweries in the state now than when we
started,” said Paul Philippon of DuckRabbit Brewery in Farmville.
“I think we're to a point where you can hardly fail to take
notice."
Brewers also say it's great to support locally because the
people making your beer are also your neighbor.
Some breweries in Eastern North
Carolina are so popular, they export all up and down the east
coast and even nationally.
